The figurative work in the photo is a parody of sculptor Auguste Rodin's, Man Walking. This version features a drawn/plywood head fixed upon a sloping three foot steel rod. Egyptian reeds were later added and bunched around the steel rod, not to hide the support, but to breathe some new life into an otherwise static work. The addition of the reeds warrants calling this piece, Man Wading in Grass, or, Man in Bushes. Regardless--it's funny, and playful.

FRANCIS PONGE

"...his stuttering text is a bouquet of seven experimental prose note-books (sometimes constructed in verse lines), which treat, with a Wittgensteinian uncloudedness, the problem of trying to describe a bird, a carnation, a mimosa, a riverbank, a pine forest, a Provencal sky, a wasp".
ARTFORUM: December 2008.

I agree that language can be confining: one reason to look forward to reading Ponge's "Mute Objects of Expression". Francis apparently has good taste in sweaters too.

Update-
Ponges' prose reminds me so much of my process in artwork--the mulling over of interchanging words/context.Nice.

GALLERY NIGHT

Nineteen Thirteen: (Janet Schiff and Brian Kreuziger) Perform at Gallery 218 on October 16, 2009.

The duo, "Nineteen Thirteen" consisting of cellist Janet Schiff and percussionist Brian Kreuziger (tabla) perform at Gallery 218, 207 E Buffalo St, October 16, 2009. Art and music enthusiasts are invited to attend Nineteen Thirteen’s performance in Milwaukee's Third Ward, 7 pm – 9 pm., courtesy of the Gallery 218, an Artist Cooperative.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, Janet Schiff has pursued the cello for over 20 years and studied with many masters while attending UW Milwaukee. With musical influences ranging from Amadeus to Zeppelin, Schiff uses technology to create what she calls her 'cello orchestra' or 'multi-cello' layers. She has performed on radio and television numerous times and is currently working on a CD, titled “Cello City”, in Georgia. Schiff performs, teaches, and records with her beloved Romanian cello in ensembles or solo and is available for bookings through her website www.cellojanet.com.

Milwaukee percussionist Brian Kreuziger on tabla, in accompaniment of Ms. Schiff, completes Nineteen Thirteen’s ensemble. He was first introduced to the tabla while attending the University of Miami. Kreuziger has been a professional percussionist in many bands, symphonies, and other ensembles for over three decades and is a member of the group, “Del Ripley”. He currently is studying under Kalyan Pathak, the foremost tabla player in the greater Chicago area. Kreuziger earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in percussion performance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

In 2009, the Gallery 218 Artist Cooperative celebrates its 19th year of promoting contemporary fine arts in Milwaukee. Exhibiting artists include founding artist and director Judith Hooks (painting), Joey Korom (painting), Thomas Kovacich (painting, sculpture, printmaking) Bernie Newman (photography), and others. Gallery Night hours are from 5–10 pm, and Gallery Day from 12–5 pm. Regular gallery hours are Friday 1–7 pm, Saturday 12–5 pm, and Sunday 1–5 pm.

CHOPS

An ode to chickens that know the drill; can bark orders, and wait tables. Kind of looks like prime time Sarah Palin sans the wink.

However, I don't think the chicken's expression is anatomically possible.
I like how the registration mark sits on the edge of the chicken's tongue.

Registered with Golden Chicken & Carry-outs.

MISTAKEN IDENTITY

It was reported that a coyote was shot today by the Milwaukee Police Department. The officers on scene, determined the coyote was an animal and therefore the possibility exists the animal could be rabid. Luckily, the officers were able to defend themselves when the coyote turned towards them. All I care about is that I paid for those bullets out of my tax dollars so I surely hope the officers were good shots.

As reported, coyote sightings in the area have been on the rise. I'm sure the possibility exists where a jogger may be challenged by an encounter with one of these buggers. Who knows what they eat? If I were walking down Lake Shore Drive, I would certainly not want to be interrupted. My time is important. What if I were texting someone, or, how would you like be driving along in your car and a bird appears out of nowhere and poops on your hood? I think it is time we refuse to let these inconveniences bastardize our lakefront and parks.

Round them up by pushing some tranquilizers inside of some hot dogs--they’ll eat them. Eat, sleep, simple. Meanwhile--clean them up while they are under and groom them, and it’s probably a good thing at this point to get them fixed. When they wake up--done deal, let’em go. I'm sure the city could contract with someone like Usinger's to sport some of their seconds at cost, just to be more green.
