GALLERY NIGHT
Nineteen Thirteen: (Janet Schiff and Brian Kreuziger) Perform at Gallery 218 on October 16, 2009.
The duo, "Nineteen Thirteen" consisting of cellist Janet Schiff and percussionist Brian Kreuziger (tabla) perform at Gallery 218, 207 E Buffalo St, October 16, 2009. Art and music enthusiasts are invited to attend Nineteen Thirteen’s performance in Milwaukee's Third Ward, 7 pm – 9 pm., courtesy of the Gallery 218, an Artist Cooperative.
Born and raised in Milwaukee, Janet Schiff has pursued the cello for over 20 years and studied with many masters while attending UW Milwaukee. With musical influences ranging from Amadeus to Zeppelin, Schiff uses technology to create what she calls her 'cello orchestra' or 'multi-cello' layers. She has performed on radio and television numerous times and is currently working on a CD, titled “Cello City”, in Georgia. Schiff performs, teaches, and records with her beloved Romanian cello in ensembles or solo and is available for bookings through her website www.cellojanet.com.
Milwaukee percussionist Brian Kreuziger on tabla, in accompaniment of Ms. Schiff, completes Nineteen Thirteen’s ensemble. He was first introduced to the tabla while attending the University of Miami. Kreuziger has been a professional percussionist in many bands, symphonies, and other ensembles for over three decades and is a member of the group, “Del Ripley”. He currently is studying under Kalyan Pathak, the foremost tabla player in the greater Chicago area. Kreuziger earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in percussion performance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
In 2009, the Gallery 218 Artist Cooperative celebrates its 19th year of promoting contemporary fine arts in Milwaukee. Exhibiting artists include founding artist and director Judith Hooks (painting), Joey Korom (painting), Thomas Kovacich (painting, sculpture, printmaking) Bernie Newman (photography), and others. Gallery Night hours are from 5–10 pm, and Gallery Day from 12–5 pm. Regular gallery hours are Friday 1–7 pm, Saturday 12–5 pm, and Sunday 1–5 pm.
