Irony: The sinking of an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. Thanks BP.

One better: When you are driving your barge to work in the morning, please feel free to ground it atop the Great Barrier Reef-just for fun.

I'm just going to say, WOW!!!!
This IS Really really, really, REALLY really good. really.
pretty good.
Really really really...

To begin with, I thoroughly enjoy the art and diligence in writing short stories.
And then, there's T.C. Boyle.

EARLY

Cast concrete experiment: clueless.
No idea. Never did it.
The objective was to cast a black concrete pedestal for a newly acquired sculpture. As you can see by the photo, within seconds of pouring the concete into the mold, the 'fun of it' was quickly surpassed by a crash course in physics--grab and screw anything wood-like to contain the oozing. The result however, turned out to be an unexpected work of art.

SOMETHING SOMETHING SOMETHING

I'm listening to a speaker on NPR ..her opinions are clear--quite moving. She speaks with the same vigor as Roy (Arundhati). My homework is to find out who this was...

INTAVA FOR RESIDENCY:THE PFISTER

Intava (sp?) is eleven. She lives in San Francisco and paints in the window of her family's storefront--and proudly displays her work, rain or shine, on the sidewalk for passerby's to enjoy. I'm told her younger brother helps; sanding smooth each of her small postcard-size plywood surfaces.

The figurative work in the photo is a parody of sculptor Auguste Rodin's, Man Walking. This version features a drawn/plywood head fixed upon a sloping three foot steel rod. Egyptian reeds were later added and bunched around the steel rod, not to hide the support, but to breathe some new life into an otherwise static work. The addition of the reeds warrants calling this piece, Man Wading in Grass, or, Man in Bushes. Regardless--it's funny, and playful.
